Utilization of external GNSS/GPS devices

The AgriBus-NAVI application allows the use of smartphone terminals alone for guidance, but the GNSS/GPS data that can be received by the terminal’s built-in sensors is insufficient for the accuracy required in agricultural operations.
To maximize the performance of the AgriBus-NAVI application, we recommend the use of an external GNSS/GPS receiver with Bluetooth connectivity.
Advantages of using an external GNSS/GPS receiver include

  • Since GNSS/GPS signal strength is weaker inside the cabin (under the roof), an external GNSS/GPS receiver can be installed on the cabin roof to improve the quality of data received from the satellite.
  • The GNSS/GPS receivers built into many smartphones can only provide single-frequency, stand-alone positioning, but by connecting an external GNSS/GPS receiver with dual-frequency DGPS positioning capability, higher precision guidance is available.
  • Furthermore, with an RTK reference station, an external GNSS/GPS receiver compatible with RTK mobile stations can be used to provide ultra-precise guidance with RTK-GPS positioning.

The AgriBus-GMiniR is equipped with a dual-frequency RTK-GNSS/GPS module, enabling centimeter-level ultra-high precision positioning, and can be used not only as a mobile station with IMU (inclination correction and path prediction), but also as a stand-alone RTK reference station with Wi-Fi communication and an automatic connection function to AgriBus-Caster. Application to RTK reference stations has also become easier and simpler.

The glo2 is a simple GNSS receiver that has long been popular among Garmin devices and is often used in AgriBus-NAVI. glo2 cannot do RTK, but it can do D-GNSS positioning. The antenna is integrated with the main unit, so the entire unit must be taped to the top of the tractor cabin.
